Marriage

Masjid-E-Khazra facilitates the solemnisation of an Islamic contract of marriage.

If you wish for your marriage to be conducted at Masjid-E-Khazra or by the Imam at an appointed venue then Please contact the Mosque office on 0141 422 1154 to speak to our Imams or alternatively, please call Haji Mohammed Akram (07871206102) for further information.

The mosque is linked with the Registrar of marriages for conducting legally recognised Muslim marriages and issues certificates on behalf of the Registrar. The following need to be carried out.

  • You will then need to “give notice” of the marriage by submitting marriage notice forms to the registrar of the district. The form can be obtained from the National Records of Scotland website at www.nrscotland.gov.uk.
  • Notice must be given in the three-month period prior to the date of the marriage and NOT LATER than 29 days before that date.
  • Once the registrar is satisfied that there is no legal impediment to the marriage, a Marriage Schedule is prepared. At least one of the parties to the marriage must attend personally at the registration office to collect the Marriage Schedule. It is the responsibility of the parties to the marriage to produce the Marriage Schedule to the Imam.
  • Please note that the Imam will NOT solemnise a marriage without the Marriage Schedule being available at the time of the ceremony
